Padloom is a little music studio you can use in a browser, free, with no ads, no sign-up and nothing to install. A song here is woven rather than looped. Every track is a thread running across the song, and every measure is a pill you can open up: click one and you get that instrument's grid for those four beats, sixteen steps across. Add measures as the song grows, take them away when it doesn't, and each one can do something different. Pick what each track plays from a dropdown: a full drum kit with sixteen voices, or a melodic instrument (bass, lead, pluck, warm pad, bell, marimba, FM synth, strings). Melodies are laid out on a piano roll that follows whatever scale and key you pick, so it stays in tune whatever you click, and you can stretch it from one octave to the whole keyboard. Open the Improv drawer and you get the pads for drums or a keyboard for everything else, both playable from your computer keys. Start the song and anything you play is recorded straight into the measure that's sounding. Loop a single measure while you work on it, on its own or against the full mix, and set the swing anywhere from straight to a hard shuffle. Eight grooves are built in to start you off, from Basic Rock to Boom Bap to Ambient Drift, and each one loads into whichever measure you choose. Your song saves itself as you go. Best on a tablet, works on anything.
