A harmonograph you can draw with online. A real one is a Victorian machine with pendulums and a pen, and this models four of them, two per axis, tracing a line onto paper as the swing dies away.
The pattern comes from the pendulums being slightly out of tune with each other. A tiny mismatch makes the curve drift a little on each pass instead of retracing itself, which is what turns a simple loop into a dense rosette.
