Chromatone

Every note has a color — play a melody, paint a mandala
by jake

A synesthesia keyboard: every pitch has a fixed color on a 12-tone color wheel, so the same note always paints the same hue. Tap or drag across the colorful pads and each note plays a bell tone while stamping a soft blob of its color onto the canvas, placed a golden angle further around the center than the last one, higher notes further out. Play a few phrases and the accumulated pattern turns into a genuine mandala built entirely from your own melody. Change the root note, scale, and synth voice while you play, save the painting as an image, or share it. For anyone searching for a synesthesia simulator, a music visualizer, or a relaxing sound-to-color drawing toy.
